The gal behind spoon me.

“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Have you heard that old saying? Let me be clear, I’m kind of a junk queen and have a hard time throwing away milk jugs because of the potential Pinterest tells me I can make with them. Yea, I’m her, Kim. Lover of all things DIY repurposing; flea market addict, crafter, photographer, silly, sarcastic, obnoxious morning person, Mom, coffee drinker, pad thai addict, cooker, gardener and let’s not forget I love my vino. I live in a tiny historic town in Western Maryland where people at the local coffee shop know your name. Did anyone else just break into the theme song for that 80’s show Cheers? I’m showing my age.

In 2015, hardships came my way in the form of divorce.  At the time, my daughter was 2 years old and with shared custody, I suddenly had vacant time on my hands.  This was extremely difficult for me and I was struggling to find productive use of my "new" time.  I've always been an "artsy fartsy" girl; always creating and repurposing growing up as a kid. I wanted to be inspired and inspire others!  Being a huge fan of poetic quotes and Hallmark cards, I started experimenting with metal stamps and vintage spoons.  I thought that if I put my feelings in the way of words on key chains and various pieces of jewelry, it would help me cope.  And it did! And people were loving what I was doing! And that brought so much incredible joy and fulfillment to my "newly vacant" time.

Fast forward several years and I am a successful, self made, self taught small business owner.  At Spoon Me, every single piece is 100% handmade by yours truly.  I personally flatten, file, drill, polish and hand stamp each spoon into a variety of things; key chains, necklaces, plant markers, bracelets and more! Whether a spoon or a knife, no part of the silverware goes unused.  Gift a personal message or create something for yourself! Make it yours! Make it unique.

I will leave you with this. I believe all things happen for a reason.  I believe hardships are lessons meant to make us stronger. I truly couldn't be more humbled by the success of Spoon Me and one day hope that my daughter will take over the business!  After all, it started because of her :)

So, thanks reading my story and for stopping by Spoon Me. Where everybody knows your name and we're always glad you came. And if you have made it this far, I’m grateful that you haven’t dismissed me all together with my alarmingly cheesy ‘Cheers' quotes. Terrible, I know.

Cheers, (oops)

Kim
